Subscription Update Obituary

James F. Burke, 84, of Holden, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Beaumont of Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Joyce A. (Carlson) Burke, three children, Christopher K. Burke, Jennifer M. Burke, both of Worcester, and Andrew E. Burke of Holden; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel Burke.

Jim was born in Worcester, son of James F. and M. Rita (McKeon) Burke. He moved to Holden in 1973.

Jim graduated from South High School in Worcester. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army. He then resumed his education attending Worcester Junior College and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston where he played Varsity basketball. He later received his MBA from Western New England College.

Jim was a sales executive for large pharmaceutical companies for more than 30 years, retiring in 1999. He worked many years for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals which was later acquired by Pfizer.

Jim was involved with his children in youth sports programs in Holden for many years. He coached Pop Warner football teams and youth basketball teams. He also followed the economy and its impact on markets. In recent years, he has been a devoted caretaker to his wife.

Calling hours are Monday, January 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. Other funeral arrangements are private.
