“The memory of a good person is a blessing”. Dorothy “Dot” Patient’s long and well lived life came to its end on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at home with her family and friends by her side. She was 94 years old. Qu’elle repose en paix. May she rest in peace.

Dorothy R. Granger was born on January 19, 1922 a daughter of the late Adelard and Angelina (Berthieume) Granger, Dorothy was raised in Worcester and Shrewsbury. She was a graduate of Commerce High School Class of 1940. While in Grammar School, at St. Joseph’s in Worcester, she would form a friendship that would last a lifetime. Upon marring Roland V. Patient on May 19, 1945 in St. Anne’s Church, Shrewsbury, MA, they moved to Worcester where they resided for 69 years until “Ro” deceased on July 2, 2014.

During World War II she worked at Wrights Machine in Worcester. After marriage she stayed at home to raise her family. She later worked part-time at RH Whites Department Store where the family always had a familiar joke that more was spent than made.

Dorothy’s life was centered on her family and faith. She cherished hosting the holiday meals, watching her favorite team, the Patriots, and spending summers at their Summer home on Ramshorn Pond in Sutton. At the “Summer Camp” Dot and Ro constantly had friends and family over each and every weekend for cookouts and sleep over’s. They loved to travel with their Airstream trailer and did so for 24 years after retirement, They wintering in Florida and traveling the country in the summer enjoying their membership in the Wally Byam Airstream Club. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Worcester and was one of the many parishioners who keep vigil for 2 years when the Parish was originally closed 20 years ago. She was a former member of The Dames de St Anne, and L’Union St. Baptiste.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is predeceased by two brothers, Adelard (Dell) and George Granger.

She is survived by her children, Daniel V. Patient of Worcester, Ronald V. Patient and his wife, Marlene of Leicester, Anne Marie Patient and her fiancée Alan of Worcester and Richard J. Patient and his wife, Susan of Sutton; seven grandchildren, Angelina, Ernest Patient and his wife Dyan, Renee Roy and her husband Matthew, David, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Gregory Patient and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy’s life by gathering for calling hours at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center on Tuesday, November 1st from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in Holy Family Parish at Saint Joseph’s Church, 35 Hamilton Street, Worcester at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

Dorothy’s memory would be honored with a donation to the Building Fund at Holy Family Parish at 35 Hamilton St., Worcester, MA 01604, to the Alzheimer’s Association , 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 or the American Cancer Society 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
