Roland “Blue” V. Patient, 92, of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Roland is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Dorothy (Granger) Patient; a daughter, Anne M. Patient and her fiancé Alan Siclari of Worcester; three sons, Daniel V. Patient of Worcester, Ronald V. Patient and his wife Marlene of Leicester, and Richard J. Patient and his wife Susan of Sutton; a sister, Sr. Marguerite Patient, SP of Holyoke; seven grandchildren, Angelina, Ernest, Renee, David, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Gregory; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Patient and two sisters, Rita J. Brunelle, and Lucille M. Josey. Roland was born in Worcester, son of the late, J. Ernest and Beatrice (Lajoie) Patient and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Classical High School, and served his nation proudly in the United States Navy, during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

“Blue”, as he was known because of his blue eyes, began working with his father, when he was just fifteen years old, at Joseph E. Patient Plumbing. He continued to work with his father for many years, before becoming President of the company and changing the name to Roland V. Patient and Sons Plumbing and Heating. He retired after many years of helping people, throughout the area, with their plumbing and heating needs, finally turning the reigns over to his son, who now runs the company as Patient Plumbing.

Roland and his wife belong to Holy Family Church (Saint Joseph) in Worcester, where he was instrumental in the efforts to save Saint Joseph Church from closing. He was a life-long member of the Harmony Club of Worcester. Roland will be remembered as a dedicated and loving man. He was dedicated to his church, to his work, but mostly dedicated to his loving wife and family.

The Patient family would like to thank the staff of the Summit Eldercare for the wonderful care Roland received during his illness. A special thanks to the many wonderful aides that came into our hearts and our home, during his illness; the love and care from these “angels” has left an indelible mark of gratitude and warmth in our collective hearts.

Calling Hours for Roland will be held on Tuesday, June 8, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a procession to church for a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 35 Hamilton Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

The family kindly requests that flowers be omitted and contributions in his name made instead to The Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or to the Building Fund at Holy Family Church, 35 Hamilton Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
