Subscription Update Obituary

     Catherine M. “Katie” (McLane) Kiritsy, 87, of Spencer, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021 at her home.

Her husband of 55 years, George P. Kiritsy, Jr., died in 2010. She leaves her son Emmett R. Kiritsy and his wife Janel of Proctorville, OH, daughters Mary C. Kiritsy and her husband Christopher Merrett of Macomb, IL, Maureen A. Kiritsy and her husband Craig Parker of Arcata, CA, and Tara L. Kiritsy of Cambridge, a brother Francis McLane and his wife Margaret of Springfield, grandchildren; Caitriona and Quinlan Parker, Grace and Alastair Merrett, Abigail and Nikolas Kiritsy, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Robert McLane.

Born in St. Albans, VT, she was the daughter of Emmett and Mary Ann (Clark) McLane and later graduated from St. Mary’s High School in St. Albans and Becker Junior College in Worcester with an associates degree. Prior to having a family, she worked as a medical secretary. Alongside her husband, she also worked for many years at the family owned Spencer Pharmacy. She was a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, an international womens’ friendship network, and frequented the Leicester Senior Center.

Her hobbies included cooking, baking, and sewing. She was always making candy for her friends’ special occasions. Katie was an avid reader. She and George enjoyed international travel; visiting Ireland, Greece and many other European and Carribean destinations. They loved entertaining their large group of friends, and everyone looked forward to their Fourth of July, Halloween, and Christmas parties.

Her funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Spencer Rescue Squad, 6 Bixby Rd., Spencer, MA 01562.
