Subscription Update Obituary

William F. “Bill” Perron, 76, Retired Chief of Police of West Boylston and Boylston, and former Sergeant of Auburn Police Department, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus, with his loving family by his side.

He leaves his beloved wife of 41 years, Nancy A. (Chuplis) Perron; his children, Stephen R. Perron and his wife Tracy, of Shrewsbury, Melinda A. Hill and her husband Todd, of Worcester, and Jason E. Perron and his wife Kate, of Tarpon Springs, Florida; his grandchildren: Nicholas, Anthony, Kershia, Zachary, Hailey-Fox, Emma, Amelia, and Samantha; a great-grandchild, Cole Michael Hill; a sister, Ellen Jackson and her husband Michael, of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, the late Walter P. and Winifred (Desrosiers) Perron.

Bill was born, raised, and educated in Worcester, prior to enlisting in the United States Marines. He was a proud Marine, having served in Vietnam, and was decorated with a Purple Heart for his courage and honor to his country. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Bill attended and graduated from the Worcester Police Academy in 1972. Bill began his career with the Auburn Police Department, working as a Patrolman from 1971 to 1985, when he became Police Sergeant. He graduated with his Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement from Quinsigamond Community College, and received his B.S. degree in Sociology from Worcester State College. Bill later completed his Master’s degree in Criminal Justice in 1990, from Anna Maria College, Paxton. He was a Training Officer and Firearms Instructor for six years, as well as a Defense Tactics Instructor, and Supervisor of the Highway Drug Intervention while with the Auburn Police. In 1994, he was sworn in as the Chief of Police of the Boylston Police Department, where he remained for four years, and later retired from the West Boylston Police Department in 2001 as Police Chief after three years.

Bill also worked as an adjunct professor in the Criminal Justice program at Quinsigamond Community College, from 1996 to 2010.

In his free time, Bill loved being at his grandchildren’s activities, hunting, and clamming at the Cape. He also enjoyed completing his crossword puzzles in the daily newspaper, playing cards, and visiting the casino. He and Nancy loved playing pitch together, in a league at Barber’s Crossing.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Perron family between 4 – 7 PM on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Dr., Auburn. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
