Subscription Update Obituary

William F. Gilroy, 86, passed away at home on Monday, July 3, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born in Worcester, the son of Duncan B. and Florence O. (Mercier) Gilroy and had lived most of his life in Worcester before moving to Rutland twenty years ago.

He leaves his loving wife of 65 years, Carol G. (Armstrong) Gilroy; his sons, Scott Gilroy and his wife, Jennifer of Rutland, Derek Gilroy of Worcester and Todd Gilroy and his wife, Sandy of Sutton; his grandchildren, Daniele, Maddy, Michael, Brittney, Emma, Justin, Maddox, Tyler, Grace, Nathan, Billy, Timmy and Sean; his great-granddaughter, Scarlett; and many nieces, nephews, and his dog Roxy.

After graduating from Commerce High School, Bill enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1955 before transferring to the U.S. Air Force Reserves before his honorable discharge in 1962. Following his service to his county, Bill continued his education and earned an associate degree from Worcester Junior College. He was a machinist by trade and started his career at Norton Company in Worcester. He also worked for Heald Machine and Warner Swasey before retiring from Pratt Whitney in 1991. Bill was devoted to his family and enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and was an avid sports fan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 10th at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for William are private and will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
