Walter James Nugent passed away 3/31/21 in Clearwater FL due to lung cancer and heart disease. Jim was born 5/14/44 in Worcester MA to Roger and Helen (Ramey) Nugent. After an adventurous/exuberant childhood in Main South area of Worcester he joined the US Army serving in Korea , Germany, and in Oct 1962 in Miami area, the tour he fondly referred to as saving us from “the big one.” Post discharge he returned to Worcester, then spent about a dozen years in sunny CA, returning to Worcester, working at Worcester City Hall and then the main Post Office from which he retired. Four years ago he and Jane happily headed south to Clearwater FL. Jim will be remembered by all for his sense of humor, kindness and love of sports, especially golf and his Boston teams. One of his greatest pleasures was cheering as Brady (who followed him down south) won his 7th Super Bowl ring.

“Mr. Wonderful” will lovingly be remembered by his love of 36 years, Jane Lantz, her daughter Heather Weller, Chicago IL, their grandchild Leah (Angel face) Weller, Warrensburg, MO, and his sister Mary “Pat” Sacco, West Boylston.

He will be fondly remembered by his nephews and nieces Michael (Robin) Sacco, West Boylston, Roger Nugent, Worcester, Robert (Susan) Sacco, Wareham, Thomas (Grace) Nugent, Charlton, Sean Mulcahy, Worcester, Kathleen (Andrew) Nordurft, Worcester, Erin Bisnette, Paxton and Dawn Nugent, Worcester. He is also survived by 7 great nieces, 7 great nephews, 2 great great nieces and one great great nibling due this summer. Jim was predeceased by his sister Catherine (Katie) Mulcahy, brother Roger “Paul” Nugent, nephew Joseph Sacco, great nephew James Nugent, and his two very dear brothers-in-law, Francis Mulcahy and Alfred Sacco.

Jim also leaves behind his “sister/brother- out-laws”, Ellen and Carl Andersen, Clearwater who helped make his dream of retiring to a warm, golfing mecca a reality, and so many life long friends, their spouses, children, grandchildren and great grandchild, all of whom were very dear to him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s memory to 365Z Foundation 907 Pleasant Street, Worcester MA 01602 https://www.365z.org/

Internment will be Friday May 14 at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton followed by a celebration of life
