Vitte J. Krapas, 93, of Fairchild Dr., passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving wife on Sunday, January 19, 2014. Vitte was born and raised in Worcester, the son of Lithuanian immigrants, Thomas and Mary (Bagurskas) Krapas, and lived 58 years in Holden.

Vitte was educated in Worcester and in 1942 enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Corp where he proudly served his country as an airplane mechanic. He later worked for Pullman Standard and for 17 years at JJ Buffaro, Inc., both in Worcester.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Throughout Vitte’s life he enjoyed boating, swimming, playing tennis and dancing with his wife. Besides the love for his wife, Vitte found great companionship with his two Dobermans, Caesar and Christopher. He spent many afternoons hiking the reservoir with them.

He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 72 years, Beatrice V. (Gokmant) Krapas; his sister, Adelle Monfreda of Worcester; three nephews, Paul Valente of Shrewsbury, Gerald Valente of Nyack, NY, and Thomas Monfreda of Hubbardston; a niece, Carine Mastrocola of Worcester; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He is predeceased by his niece, Lisa Amoroso and his sister, Ruth Smelwicze.

A funeral service honoring Vitte’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 24, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Interment with military honors will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden, St., Worcester, MA 01606.
