Vina L. (Owens) McLaughlin, 102, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday evening at Life Care Center of Auburn. She died 4 days short of her 103rd birthday.

Her husband, John J. McLaughlin died in 1977. She leaves a son, Thomas A. McLaughlin and his wife, Donna; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sons, Terrance P. and John T. and her daughter, Patricia Turner.

She was born May 8, 1912 to Thomas and Mary (Keaney) Owens and lived the first 90 years of her life in Worcester. Vina attended Girl’s Trade High School and worked as a seamstress for many years before her and John were married in November of 1941. After her children had grown she went back to work at St. Vincent Hospital in the Radiology Department.

In her younger days she enjoyed family vacations to Hampton Beach and Webster Lake. She also loved watching golf, the Celtics and her beloved Red Sox. She was alive for 7 out of their 8 World Series Championships and was lucky enough to go on the field to meet the players on her 99th birthday. She would have loved to watch the Sox in her youth, but there was no television until she was in her 30’s.

The McLaughlin’s would like to thank everyone at the Life Care Center of Auburn for the wonderful care and compassion they’ve shown Vina over the last few years.

Her funeral is Friday, May 8th with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester is directing arrangements.
