Valerian N. Kulesza, 84, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023 after a sudden illness, surrounded by his loving wife and family at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Val is survived by his wife of 61 years, Diana R. (Giacobba) Kulesza; his four daughters, Laura Cullen and her husband Rory of Park City, UT, Teresa Parmenter and her husband Peter of Worcester, Cheryl Ramos and her husband Jose of Worcester and Denise Kulesza of Worcester; his six grandchildren, Alison Connor, Ryan Connor, Stephanie Parmenter, Miranda Ramos, Nicholas Kulesza and Selena Ramos and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Dennis Kulesza of Douglas and Ronald Kulesza of Worcester.

Born in Worcester, MA on December 6, 1938, he was the son of the late Valerian P. and Agnes T. (Oveka) Kulesza and grew up in the Vernon Hill section of Worcester. He graduated from the former Saint Mary’s High School, Class of ‘56. During “Sonny’s” high school years he played on the basketball and baseball teams. He was always known for his unique sense of humor and quick wit. He also attended the Ward School of Business.

Val proudly served for many years in the Air National Guard and worked for the Worcester Housing Authority as a Journeyman Plumber for over 20 years before retiring. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was also a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union #4.

He was dedicated to the Jack Barry Little League across the street from his house. He was instrumental in developing the Senior and Junior Girls Softball Leagues and never missed any of his girls’ games. He enjoyed his music and Sunday morning Polkas. He was very proud of maintaining the beauty of his home for his wife. Dad has been the solid foundation of support and love for our family. Spending time with his grandchildren has brought him great joy and happiness.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:30AM in Worcester County Memorial Park 217 Richards Avenue Paxton, MA. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Kulesza may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
