Thomas Thornton, 63, of Worcester passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at UMass Memorial Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 38 years of Paula (Hayes) Thornton, who survives along with their two daughters, Erin and her husband Stephen Keeney and Megan Thornton. He was “Pop” to Thomas Keeney, whom he adored. Two sisters and a brother also survive- Eileen Guzman, Edmund and his wife Margaret Thornton, and Christine Thornton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Agnes (Ewing) Thornton, and brother-in-law, John Guzman. He also leaves several cherished nieces and nephews.

Tom was a member of the Brown Square Civic Club, the Leicester Country Club, and he enjoyed playing sports, most notably golf and basketball. More than anything, he was a great family man who enjoyed memorable trips to York Beach, ME and being heavily involved in his children’s lives, both in sports and academics. He was especially overjoyed with the arrival of his grandson. He leaves many strong friendships spanning from New York, the College of Saint Joseph the Provider in Vermont, Massachusetts and beyond.

Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, February 9th from 9am to 11am at the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:30am at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 23 Fales St., Worcester. Family would like to remind those attending the calling hours and church services that masks will be required. Interment will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Friendly House, 36 Wall St, Worcester, MA 01606. Please note “Tom Thornton” in the memo.
