Thomas P. Chviruk, 69, of Worcester, died Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, after complications from heart issues.

He leaves a son Brian C. Chviruk and his wife Sarah Ferguson, two grandsons, Connor and Michael Chviruk, all of Natick; three brothers, Daniel R. Chviruk and his wife Elizabeth, William E. Chviruk, all of Worcester, and Kevin A. Chviruk and his wife Laura of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was born in Worcester, son of the late Edward J. and Imelda A. (Vincelette) Chviruk.  He lived most of his life in Worcester where he graduated from St. Peter’s High School and Quinsigamond Community College.

Tom’s career was as a manager in the hospitality and food service profession.  Most recently in the Dietary Dept. at the UMass–Memorial Medical Center University Campus.  After retirement he continued helping others at the Holden Senior Center, or through his volunteer work at St. John’s.

He was an avid golfer and a diehard sports fan, especially of the Boston Celtics, the Green Bay Packers, and a certain baseball team who shall not be mentioned per the family’s request.   Tom had a deep interest in history, especially the U.S Presidents.  He merged these passions by arranging annual trips across the U.S. visiting both all the major sporting arenas, and all the Presidential museums and graves.

Above all, Tom loved spending time with his family.  Working with his Dad in the wood shop, volunteering his time to take his son camping with Scouts, or being his grandchildren’s #1 Superfan on the sidelines every weekend.

Calling hours are Thursday, March 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester.  The funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 8, at 10:30 a.m. in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester.  Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. John’s Food for the Poor, 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604; or to The Brigham Fund to support heart research, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, 263 Huntington Avenue, #318, Boston, MA 02115.
