Subscription Update Obituary

Stephen L. Benson, 64, died Saturday, November 13, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Lisa (Morin) Benson, whom he married on April 23, 1998, and their son, Jax Benson.  He is also survived by his sons, Nicholas and Dylan Benson, both of Southbridge; his mother, Florence M. (LaReau) Benson of Framingham, MA; 2 brothers, John “Chip” Benson and his fiancée, Shawna, of Cinncinati, OH, and Thomas Benson of Southbridge; two sisters, Judith Tedeschi and her husband, Raymond, of Newington, CT, and Ellen Stanikmas and her husband, Scott, of Charlton, MA; a brother-in-law, Eric Morin, of Southbridge; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  Stephen was predeceased by his father, John L. Benson, and his brother, David Benson.

Born July 19, 1957, Stephen was a lifelong resident of Southbridge.  He graduated from Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School with the class of 1975.  Stephen was a veteran of the US Navy.  He worked for Wilder Painting for over 30 years as a painter and foreman.  Stephen especially enjoyed golfing, playing softball, as well as belonging to a bowling league and pool league.  He was an avid New England sports fan.  The Benson family would like to thank Stephen’s nurse, Tarah Traina from the Care Central VNA & Hospice, for the wonderful care she gave him.

Calling hours at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA will be Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 2-3:30PM, with a Prayer Service to begin at 3:30PM.  Private burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park at a later date.
