Subscription Update Obituary

Simon J. Chiasson, 86, of Burbank Street, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester, after a short illness.  He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Ruth M. (Goodale) Chiasson who died in 2004.  He is survived by a daughter, June M. Collins and her husband Leander of Oxford; two granddaughters, Amy Fountain of Oxford, and Angela Fountain of Charlton; three great-grandchildren, Aliccia Fountain, Casandra Fountain, and Antoine Cruz; two step-granddaughters, Lisa Coy and Debbie Gauthier; his girlfriend, Carol Joseph of Worcester; and several nephews and nieces.  He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Barbara Roper.  He was born in Waltham, son of the late Simon J. Chiasson Sr. and Marie H. Chiasson, and lived in Waltham and Milford before moving to Oxford in 1970.  He attended St. Mary’s High School in Waltham.  He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Chiasson was a truck driver for A.B.F. Company in Worcester for 8 years, retiring in 1998.  Previously, he was a truck driver for Holmes Transportation in Framingham for 13 years and Nelson Freightways in Westboro for 8 years.  Member of the N.R.A. and the Teamsters Local 170 in Worcester.  He was a member of the Auburn Elks and the American Legion Post 58 in Oxford.  He was a member of the Gun Owners Action League and devout supporter of the 2nd Amendment.

The family would like to thank Simon’s very close friends, Mike and Penny Rood, for helping Simon and being there for him through thick and thin.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford.  Burial with military honors will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.  Calling hours are Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barton Center for Diabetes Education, P.O. Box 356, North Oxford, MA 01537, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
