Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Shirley Armendo, 90 years of age, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, April 15th.

Shirley leaves behind three children, her daughter Linda Tomaino (Joe), Michael Robichaud (Ruth), and Mark Armendo (Elaine). In addition, she leaves six grandchildren: Teddy (Maryellen), Tina (Scott), Michael, Jacqueline, Emily and Anthony and five great grandchildren: Ashley, Nikolas, Natalia, TJ and Oak. She also leaves two step-grandsons, Joseph and his sons and Steven and his son, Marco. She leaves nephews Maurice and Paul and nieces Debra and Gloria.

Due to physical limitations, Shirley resided at CareOne in Millbury for the past two and a half years but spent most of her life living and working in Worcester. Shirley’s talent in the kitchen led her to becoming a baker for the Worcester Public School System until her retirement. Her hermit cookies have yet to be rivaled by some of the finest bakeries. In addition to cooking and baking Shirley had a green thumb and the flora on her front porch inspired many neighbors and visitors alike at The Colony on Grove Street.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband John, her grandson Mark Armendo, Jr., her brother, Maurice, sister-in-law Pauline. Shirley was sadly predeceased by her infant daughter in 1953.

Shirley’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, April 21st at Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester.
