Subscription Update Obituary

     Sharon M. (Layte) Mrugala, 68, of Shrewsbury, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, April 8, 2019, in The Christopher House of Worcester.

She is survived by her loving children, Matthew J. Mrugala and his wife Joanne of Holden, Mark F. Mrugala of San Diego, Daniel J. Mrugala of Auburn, and Sarah E. Mrugala of Watertown; her mother, Gladys (Holmes) Iannotti of Ocala, FL; a sister, Donna LaBrie of Concord, MA; four brothers, Thomas Layte of Beaumont, CA, James Layte of Ocala, Fl, Paul Layte of Charlton, and John Layte of Auburn; the father of her children, Theodore J. Mrugala; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Layte, and by her father, Sidney Layte.

Sharon was born in Worcester and remained in the area all her life. She was a graduate of Doherty High in Worcester and from the Saint Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at Saint Vincent Hospital, and then went on to work as a visiting nurse with Auburn Visiting Nurses and Pernet Family Health Center.

Sharon was a devout church goer and was a member of Saint John’s Church in Worcester. She was involved as a volunteer at local food pantries and a prayer shawl knitting group. She enjoyed playing BINGO as well as painting, drawing, and arts & crafts. Her family will remember her for her unconditional love and inspiration.

Please join Sharon’s family for Calling Hours on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral will be on Friday, April 12, 2019, departing the funeral home at 9:40 a.m., in procession, for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Saint John’s Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
