Sandra L. (Norquist) Benoit, 80, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 after a brief illness. Born in Worcester on February 6, 1940, Sandy was the daughter of the late Harold and Alice (Bean) Norquist and lived most of her life in Holden.

Sandy was a member of the first class to attend four years at Wachusett Regional High School, graduating in 1958. She worked for 10 years at State Mutual Insurance Co. as a senior clerk in the accounting department. She later worked with her sons in Holden as the bookkeeper for Benoit Brothers Construction Co.

She loved being a part of her sons’ lives as they were growing up, working hard to keep them in line. Sandy looked forward to taking them to Hampton Beach for vacation every year. Her kindness and love for family extended to her sons’ friends and was immeasurable.

Known as Grammy, Grandma, and most recently Great-Grammy, Sandy took tremendous pride watching her grandchildren for the past 25 years. She never missed her grandkids sports games and lived for cooking family spaghetti dinners. Sandy waited to see all of her grandchildren before being at rest.

Sandy’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Beacon Hospice, particularly to Brenda for her unparalleled care and compassion.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James A. Benoit; her three sons, James M. Benoit of Sterling, Peter J. Benoit and his wife, Michelle Boyce of Princeton and Matthew P. Benoit and his wife, Christa of Holden; a sister, Karen Nurmi of Brookfield; seven grandchildren, Sierra, Katie, Jordan, Audrey, Elliot, Teddy, Tessa, Kaylee and Mason; a great granddaughter, Ryleigh Mae; nephews and nieces. Besides her parents, Sandy is predeceased by two sisters, Joanne Bettez and Deborah Racca.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Sandy’s family from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, January 25th, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Out of love and concern for Sandy’s family, proper social distancing and wearing of a mask will be required for attendance. A funeral service honoring her life will be held privately Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park. Sandy’s service will be available for viewing later Tuesday on the Miles Funeral Home’s website at www.milesfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wachusett Food Pantry, P.O. Box 62, Jefferson, MA 01522-0062.
