Subscription Update Obituary

Sandra J. (Gilbert) Dean, 72, of Sturbridge, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at home with her loving family by her side.

Sandra was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Normand and Evelyn (Lucier) Gilbert. She was a graduate of North High School and lived in Worcester most of her life until moving to Sturbridge with her son, George and his family. Sandra worked as a waitress for various restaurants most recently for Ziti’s Restaurant. She previously worked at Barber’s Crossing on West Boylston Street and Worcester State Hospital. In her free time, Sandra enjoyed bingo, cards especially pitch and Pokeno, going to the casino and scratching tickets and watching General Hospital. What she enjoyed the most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Sandra’s beloved husband of 48 years, Paul W. “Dino” Dean passed away on December 28, 2021. She is survived by three sons, Kevin G. Dean and his wife Crystal of Worcester, George W. Dean and his wife Malerie of Sturbridge with whom she lived and Daniel J. Davis of Worcester; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Dylan, Dalton, Skylar, Alyssa and Deanna who affectionately called her “Gramma”, and Mason and Aiden who affectionately called her “Bama”; eight great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two brothers, Butch Gilbert and Paul Gilbert and a sister, Linda Field.

Services for Sandra will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026 with a procession from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester to St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main St., Northborough where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial next to her husband will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Wednesday, May 6th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105
