Roy Blanchard, 73 of Worcester, a husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Friday, September 26, 2014 with the family he loved gathered beside him.
Roy was born in Millbury, the son of Leroy and Leah (Klimas) Blanchard. He graduated from Millbury High School, joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Millbury, Roy furthered his education earning a degree in materials management from WPI. He has lived in the Worcester area all his life.
Roy is survived by the love of his life and wife of 23 years, Sandra G. (Lamorey) Blanchard; his six children, Monique R. Mazzone and her children, Alex, Jack and Sophia; Roy “Butch” Blanchard, Jr., his wife Robin and their children, Cameron, Mitchell, and Kaylee; Holly Tremblay, her husband Stephan and their children Hayden, and Margo; Becky Maitino, her husband Alberto and their children Rocco, Marcello, and Francesca; Ashley Doucette, her husband John and their children Jonathan and Amelya; Courtney Bisceglia, and her longtime partner Nicholas Soter; two sisters, Carol LaFlash of Rutland and Beverly Santagata of Grafton; Nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Roy before retirement worked as a materials manager. He began his career working for Sprague Electric, Digital Equipment Corporation, and Quantum. Roy then accepted the same position working for International Polarizer Company in Southboro before retiring.
Very much an Outdoorsman, Roy found his enjoyment in hunting, fishing and being in the woods. He was a lifetime member of the Singletary Rod & Gun Club, the Main South Post 341, American Legion, and the Auburn Lodge of Elks. He was also a member and Past Commander of the former Lithuania War Veterans Organization in Shrewsbury. Roy was a kind and gentle man who was all about family. If he wasn’t in the Woods, he was with his family. Nothing made him happier than being with his wife, children and grandchildren. The birthdays, holidays and special occasions, when he had his family around him were the greatest times in his life.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours Tuesday, September 30th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 1st at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial remembrances in Roy’s name be made to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Rd, Casco, ME 04015.
