Robert L. Preston, 73, formerly of Holden, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 8, 2016 in Worcester. Bob was a son of the late Lawrence and Shirley (Goodney) Preston and lived many years in Holden before moving to Rutland this past summer.

Bob was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 31 years, Joanne (Charlotte) Preston, in 2000.

He was a very spiritual man who enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. He will be remembered for his love of birds and all that nature’s beauty has to offer. Bob was also a history buff who was especially interested in the Civil War. He loved to travel, and always looked forward to his next adventure. Recently he visited Hawaii, and achieved his goal of visiting all 50 states. He had a passion for the Spanish language, and took great pleasure in teaching and tutoring Spanish speaking adults unfamiliar with the English language.

Bob’s generosity knew no boundaries, he was always quick to help those less fortunate. Family and friends who knew Bob best, would not be surprised to learn that minutes before he passed away, he made a donation to a local radio station that was accepting donations to purchase gifts for children in foster care during this holiday season.

He was a self-employed entrepreneur, and together with his partner Ronald LeRoy, owned and operated LeRoy-Preston Copy Company in West Boylston for many years. Bob also owned and operated the R.L. Preston Map Company.

He is survived by his son, Michael R. Preston, and his wife, Beth and their children, Ben, Seth, Kate and Noah of Holden; his daughter, Jennifer L. Lachapelle and her daughters, Kailyn and Lauren of Whitinsville; a brother, Larry Preston and two sisters, Maureen DeSimone and Linda Preston. Bob was predeceased by his sister, Carol Preston and his twin brother, Richard Preston.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family from 10:30 to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 14 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, followed by a funeral service honoring his life at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant House Times Square Station, P.O. Box 731, New York, NY 10108-0900.
