Subscription Update Obituary

   Robert F. "Bud" Westerlind, 83, of Worcester, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008 in his home.

   Robert is survived by his wife and partner of 63 years, Geraldine J. "Gerry" (Davis) Westerlind; his six devoted children: Robert F. "Butch" Westerlind, Jr. and David Westerlind, both of Millbury, Gene E. Westerlind and his wife Cheryl of Olathe, Kansas, Dennis A. Westerlind, Linda J. Westerlind, Carol Bernardi and her husband Michael, all of Worcester; a brother, Frank Westerlind of Worcester; a sister, Shirley Boomhower in Florida; seven cherished grandchildren; two great granddaughters; many nieces and nephews. Three brothers: Arthur, William and his twin brother, Richard Westerlind and two sisters: Mary Cofsky and Helen Niemi, all predeceased him. Robert was born in Worcester, his parents were the late Frank and Mary (Zalinski) Westerlind. He served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the heavy cruiser, USS Boston, in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II, and has lived here all his life.

   Robert worked over 34 years for the former Rex Chain Belt Company, now Rexnord in Auburn, before retiring. After retirement, Robert worked several years for St. John's Cemetery.

   Robert was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, and the VFW South Works Post 3657. He was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple things in life, like tending his garden flowers, his yard and watching birds and nature. His wife and family were his devotion and greatest joy. He was an avid golf fan and enjoyed playing his harmonica.

   The funeral will be held Thursday, September 4th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 189 Oxford Rd., Auburn. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, September 3rd from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 60 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01608.
