Robert A. Swenson, 84, died peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Knollwood Nursing Center, West Boylston. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Arvid J. and Ellen I. (Anderson) Swenson.

Bob was raised on Holden Street and never moved very far away, settling in Greendale for most of his life. He married the former Jean O. Wentzell, and together they shared more than 46 years of marriage before Jean’s passing in 2004. Bob stayed close to home for work, spending 42 years with Norton Company, as well for worship as a member of the Greendale People’s Church. Bob was an accomplished athlete, competing in basketball as a young man and later playing in a golf league at Pine Ridge in North Oxford. He also enjoyed a good tennis match at the YMCA and at the Norton Tennis courts. Bob was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War, but his service time was cut short when he was forced to return home following the sudden death of his father. Bob enjoyed the last five years he has spent in the Briarwood Retirement Community.

He will be dearly missed by his son, Stephen R. Swenson of Worcester; his daughter, Linda J. Sliwoski and her husband, Robert of West Boylston. He was a wonderful “Grampy” to his three grandchildren, Justin and Kyle Sliwoski of West Boylston and Courtney Swenson of Shrewsbury. Bob leaves cousins whom he lived with growing up.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family on Wednesday, August 26, from 10-11 a.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service will then be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial in Worcester County Memorial Park.
