Ringgard, Rita J. (Shank) died peacefully at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center on June 16, 2022, in Worcester at the age of 90.

Rita survived her beloved husband, George W. Ringgard after his passing in 1983. She is survived by her children; James A. Hooper and his wife, Suyhen of Hudson, NH, her daughter, Anne Marie Hooper and her husband, Brendan Martin of VT; her stepsons, Donald, Dean and Danny Ringgard; her stepdaughters, Dorin and Tracy Ringgard; her brothers, David and Anthony Jr. Shank of Rutland; as well as her niece, nephew and several cousins.

Rita was born in Oxford to Anthony J. and Claudia (Roy) Shank. Rita took great pride in the completion of her high school diploma that she victoriously completed at the age of 69. She was a tenacious worker and gave of herself to a wide range of local companies that were honored to have Rita on their team. Grenier’s Wood Heel Company, Boose, Bur and Bosson Woolen Mill, Rutland Home for Wayward Children, Devereux School, Norton Company and Stone House Hill encompassed her network of essential employers. In her rare free time, she shared her love of gardening, crocheting rugs and hand sewing clothes. Rita’s family and friends were fed generously from her talents as a wonderful cook! She also enjoyed sharing Canadian music with her daughter-in-law.

Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 11:00 am – noon at Miles Funeral Home 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rita’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutland Lion’s Club P.O. Box 626, Rutland, MA 01543.
