Subscription Update Obituary

Rickey D. Bassett, 67, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. He was born in Madison, Maine, the son of the late, William E. Bassett, Jr. and had lived most of his life in Rutland.

He leaves his son, Justin Bassett and his companion, Elizabeth DeFosse of Rutland; his daughters, Sue Bailey and her husband, Chris of Leicester and Heather Bassett and her companion, Ryan Barron of Tampa, FL; his mother, Diane Bassett and her companion, Harold Beakman of Lockport, NY; four grandchildren, Braydon, Alyvia, Paul, and Henry; his long time companion’s children, John Bell and his wife, Melissa and their daughter, Olivia of Barre and Andy Bell of Rutland. He was predeceased by the love of his life and best friend, Theresa Bell who passed away in 2018.

After graduating from high school, Rickey enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country. He was a heavy machine operator for many years for Govoni & Sons Construction Co. in Worcester before retiring six years ago. Previously, he worked for Holden Heating. Rickey was member of the Rutland Sportsman’s Club, the Rutland Fire Brigade, and a former member of the Rutland Fire Dept. He loved to fish and could always be found at his favorite fishing hole with his good friend, Dawg.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A celebration of life service for Rickey will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 2nd at the Rutland Sportsman’s Club, 75 Pleasantdale Road, Rutland, MA 01543. A private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland Sportsman’s Club at (rscma.org)
