Subscription Update Obituary

     Richard P. Powers, 91, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 peacefully at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 12, 1926 in Worcester, the son of Walter J. and Mary R. (Chabot) Powers.  He worked at Reed Organ Company, a family business building organs and retired from the Killeen Machine and Tool Company, Worcester.

Richard served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on various ships including the USS Massachusetts.  He was awarded 11 medals for his brave service.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte and is survived by 2 daughters, Kathy Hanson of Southbridge, and Nancy Boland of Centerville.  He leaves 3 grandchildren Richard Hanson of Southbridge, Melissa Vastola of Chatham, NJ and Cheryl Maloney of Bedford. 5 Great Grandchildren Abigail and Tyler Vastola, Sophia Hanson, Kayah and Noah Maloney.  He also leaves devoted and caring friends Kristina, Joe and Jayden Burnett, Patrice and Catlin Roarke and Kraig Grundberg.  The family wishes to thank the staff at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Compassus Hospice for their dedication to his care.

Family and friends are invited to attend a committal service honoring and celebrating Richard’s life at 11:30am, Monday, April 2, 2018, at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton, MA 01612.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
