Subscription Update Obituary

     Richard F. Wackell, 77, died peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, surrounded by his cherished family.

Dick was born and raised in Worcester, a son of the late Vincent J. and Catherine (Cannole) Wackell. He was educated in Worcester schools, and in 1955 enlisted in the U.S. Army following the Korean War, serving three years. Dick then became a claims adjustor working in the Worcester and Boston area for several different insurance providers, retiring from Hanover Insurance in 1999. He loved to spend time visiting Cape Cod and Florida, was an avid reader and loved to cook for his family.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Judith A. (Day) Wackell, whom he married December 23, 1971. He also leaves his four children, Richard A. and Joseph V. Wackell both of Worcester, Shayne A. Wackell of Ashland and Susan E. Wackell of Ft. Myers, FL; his brother, Robert Wackell and his wife, Jane of Millbury; his sister, Barbara Wackell of Worcester; and his cherished granddaughter, Katelynn Wackell of Leicester. He was predeceased his sister, Gayle Mardirossian.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dick’s family at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, and again at 9 a.m. on Friday before leaving in procession to Saint Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street, Worcester for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Saint Peter’s Food Pantry, 929 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01610.
