Subscription Update Obituary

     Pierre (Pete) J Rietveld, 97, passed away peacefully in his sleep October 23, 2014. Born February 3, 1918, in Holland, Pierre came to America at the age of 3.

He was in the first graduating class at Auburn HS and graduated from Becker College. He was drafted in 1942 and assigned to the 12th Weather Squadron /15th Air Force Headquarters at Foggia Airport in Italy during WWII. Pierre continued his military service in the Active Reserves, in Signal and Communications Companies. After the war, Pierre married Isabel (Bella) Amster and started his career at New England Telephone, where he retired in 1984.

Pierre, an avid golfer for 75 years, was a member of Pine Ridge CC for 35 years, serving 15 years as Handicap Chairman.

Pierre was pre-deceased by Isabel, his wife of 62 years (October 24, 2008) and is survived by his daughters and their families: Ruth Rietveld-Kirwan and David Kirwan, Rochdale; Linda and Stephen Teasdale, Worcester; and Deborah and Olaf Weidhaas, Westborough. He will be sincerely missed by his grandchildren Wes Teasdale and wife Amy, Annalisa (Teasdale) Hurley and husband Keith Hurley, and Sophie and Max Weidhaas.

Visiting Hours are Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from 4-6 PM at BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn, MA, followed by a farewell get-together at Pine Ridge Country Club, North Oxford, at 6:30pm. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Worcester County Memorial Park at 11:00AM Thursday, October 29, 2015.
