Subscription Update Obituary

     Philip S. Riordan, 65, of Worcester, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 42 years, Marie B. (Mathieu) Riordan; two sons, Stephen M. Riordan and Dennis J. Riordan, both of Worcester; three siblings, Vincent P. Riordan II and his wife Margaret of Virginia, Joan Belanger and her husband John of Shrewsbury, and Michael Riordan and his wife Mary of Grafton; a sister-in-law, Antoinette Brytowski and her husband Peter of Putnam, CT; two grandchildren, Amber Mitsis and Tyra Riordan, both of Worcester; his aunt Evelyn Strothers of Worcester; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Vincent P. and Marguerite M. (McGrath) Riordan. He graduated from Anna Maria College with a degree in criminal justice.

Philip enlisted in the Army National Guard on May 17, 1976 and went on to Officer Candidate School. He retired from the United States Army Reserve at the rank of Major Inf. in October 2000. He was a Massachusetts certified Police Officer for the City of Worcester for 32 years, retiring April 30, 2008. He became a Police Sergeant in 1988. Philip enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family.

The funeral will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, with a 9:30 am Mass at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St, Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Friday, April 1 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
