Subscription Update Obituary

Philip S. DiBenedetto, 72, of Worcester, passed away peacefully, Friday July 8, 2022, after a brief illness.

Phil was born in Worcester, on November 30, 1949, the fourth born of seven children of Pasquale and Evelyn (Coursey) DiBenedetto. He grew up in Shrewsbury, graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School, where he learned his lifelong trade of carpentry. Phil then joined the U.S. Navy, serving proudly during the Vietnam Era aboard the U.S.S. Francis Hammond. Upon discharge Phil embarked on a career as a carpenter working alongside his brothers in the family-owned business Peter and Paul Builders. He then accepted a position for the City of Worcester School department maintaining school buildings before retiring.

Phil leaves his partner and fiancée, Kathy Boulanger of Shrewsbury; his former wife and friend, Phyllis (Lavell) DiBenedetto; two sons, Stephen, and David DiBenedetto all of Worcester. Phil is also survived by three sisters, Rose Ducimo and her husband Gerry of Worcester,  Patti DiBenedetto and Donna Lawton, both of Shrewsbury; two brothers, Paul DiBenedetto and his wife Karen of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Pat DiBenedetto and his wife Diann of Shrewsbury; many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and family. A brother, Peter DiBenedetto predeceased him.

Phil enjoyed his time with his family most of all, whether it was playing cards with his siblings, or attending baseball games with his sons, the holidays and special occasions.  He was a member of St Anne’s Church and the Disabled American Veterans Mass Chapter. Phil will be remembered by many for his generosity, sense of humor and most of all his homemade lasagna.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours Wednesday, July 13th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral service will be held Thursday, July 14th at 11 :00 am in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Vet’s Inc. 69 Grove Street, Worcester MA 01608.
