Subscription Update Obituary

Pauline R.  “Polly” (Richards) Boyns, 69, of Thayer Pond Drive, died Thursday, June 29, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, after a short battle with cancer.  She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Stephen D. Boyns of North Oxford; her sister-in-law, Janet Burgess and her husband Steve of North Grafton; her niece, Kristin Lee Raybeck of North Oxford; her nephew, Derek Raybeck of Buffalo, NY; three Godchildren; and many, many friends.  She was predeceased by her sister, Donna Dawkins; and her stepfather, Edwin Martin.  She will also be missed by her cats, Snuggles and Rosa.  She was born in Beverly, daughter of the late William A. Richards and Harriet (Ericson) Martin, and lived in Beverly, Shrewsbury, Worcester, and North Grafton, before moving to Oxford over 20 years ago.  She graduated from Beverly High School in 1971 and received a bachelor’s degree from Worcester State University in 1975.

Mrs. Boyns was a bank teller for Bank of America for 17 years.  After retiring, she worked at Market Basket in Oxford for several years.  Previously, she worked in the retail industry for many years and sewed interiors for Sessions Casket Company in Worcester.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Clara Barton Chapter in Oxford, the 4-H Club, the Rainbow Girls, and the Red Hat Society.  She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester, where she was also a Sunday School teacher and member of the United Methodist Women.  She enjoyed crafts, cooking, baking, and loved spending Labor Day weekend at Geneva Point.  She was a very social person who loved spending time with people.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St., Worcester.  Calling hours are Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.  Burial will be at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to a cat rescue of your choice.
