Subscription Update Obituary

     Mildred P. “Millie” (Gabriel) Stapor, 93, a longtime resident of Worcester, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her devoted family.

Millie’s first husband, Joseph Scampini, passed away in 1961 and her second husband of 25 years, Peter S. Stapor, passed away in 1986. She is survived by her son, Joseph Scampini of Worcester and her daughter, Barbara Scampini of Shrewsbury; her brother, Roy Gabriel and his wife Joan of Worcester; her sister, Florence Lopriore of Worcester; three grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her companion, Sydney Lonestien; four brothers, John, Chester, Kenneth and Leonard Gabriel; a daughter-in-law, Priscilla Scampini.

Millie was born in Orange, Massachusetts, a daughter to Italian Immigrants, Frank and Mary (Belsito) Gabriel. She attended Worcester Public Schools and worked for Worcester State Hospital for over 30 years before her retirement. Millie was a member of the former Saint Margaret Mary’s Church and a member Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Parish. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 201 Women’s Auxiliary, Beato Angelo D’Acri Women’s Society and the former Calabria Club. She loved dancing on Saturday nights, especially line dancing. She lived a very happy full life with friends and family where she loved everybody and everybody loved her.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Jason and Cassie from the VNA Hospice and to all the staff especially the second floor of Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the outstanding care and compassion given to Millie during her time with them.

Services for Millie will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 form the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held on Friday morning from 9-10 a.m. in the funeral home prior to her funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Restoration Fund, 28 Mulberry St., Worcester, MA. 01604 or Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activities Fund, 378 Plantation St., Worcester, MA. 01605.
