Subscription Update Obituary

Mary P. (Moylan) Tangney, 97, of Worcester, died Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.

Her husband of 53 years, John J. “Tag” Tangney, died in 2002.

Mary leaves five children, Patricia M. Carroll, Kevin J. Tangney and his wife Ann, Brian J. Tangney and his wife Gina, Kathleen M. Harrity and her husband John, all of Worcester, and Terrence J. Tangney and his wife Debra of Millis; thirteen grandchildren, Matthew and James Carroll, Sean and Meaghan Tangney, Brianne, Justin and John Tangney, John, Brian and Patrick Harrity, and Ryne, Cole and Bailey Tangney; four great-grandchildren, Alexandria Harrity, Mila and Luke Tangney, and Harper Short, and her fifth great grandchild due this week; two sisters, Beverly A. Ritchie of Worcester and Deborah T. Moylan of South Dennis; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by seven brothers, Paul Moylan, Joseph Moylan, Robert Moylan, Donald Moylan, David Moylan, Richard Moylan and Bernard Moylan, and two sisters, Phyllis White and Joan Zawalick.

Mary was born in Westboro, one of twelve children of John J. and Edna M. (McGlory) Moylan. She lived in Worcester most of her life. She was a graduate of Commerce High School. She worked for several years as activities director at the former Elmwood Manor in Worcester.

Mary was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Church and a member of the former Our Lady of Fatima Church. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital and a member of the Guild of Our Lady of Providence. For many years, she crocheted hats and blankets for newborn children at the hospital.

Mary had a lifetime of devotion to her family including her husband, children, and more recently, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Notre Dame Long Term Care for the care and kindness extended to our mother.

Calling hours will be held Monday, July 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, July 13, at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Worcester County Food Bank, 474 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
