Subscription Update Obituary

     Mary-Magdelean (Hughes) Hargrove, passed away into the Lord, Thursday, July 16th 2015, her 87th birthday joining in heaven her husband of 65 years Rev Thurman A. Hargrove Sr. who passed away in April of 2014.

Mrs. Hargrove is survived by her loved family; her six children, Barbara Murray of North Carolina, Thurman Hargrove Jr. and his wife Debra of Webster, Beatrice Charles, of Worcester, Mary-Magdelean “Maggie” Baxter and her husband Mitchell with whom she lived; John Hargrove and his wife Angela all of Worcester and a foster daughter, Linda Fischer of Cape Cod; two sisters, Silvia Steeles of Birmingham Alabama and Mattie Layton of Northport Alabama; a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great- great grandchildren and many other extended family members and friends who loved her.

Mrs. Hargrove was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on July 16th 1928, one of fourteen children of David and Aida (Norris) Hughes. On July 23rd of 1948, she married Thurman A. Hargrove Sr. and they moved to Worcester where they have lived ever since until moving to Southbridge last year. Mary worked for the Vellumoid Company many years before retiring in 1996. She was the pastor’s wife, a member and active volunteer of Second Baptist church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23rd at 11:00 am in Second Baptist Church, 14 Hammond St. The Rev. Pastor R.S. Smith will officiate. Burial next to her husband will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. A period of time for paying respects will be held from 10 am to 11 am Thursday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Second Baptist Church, 14 Hammond St., Worcester. THE MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
