MaryAnn (Hanson) Gallagher, 86, of Worcester, died Thursday, July 14, 2022 at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center.

Her beloved husband of 39 years, James P. Gallagher Jr., died in 2001.

MaryAnn leaves five sons, Andrew J. Gallagher and his wife Karen of Paxton, Charles P. Gallagher and his wife Gina of Worcester, James Patrick (Pat) Gallagher  III and his wife Jill of Spencer, John H. Gallagher and his partner Kathleen of Spencer, and David A. Gallagher of Smithfield, RI. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Evan, Gemma, Mia, Lindsay, Brandon, Jack, CJ, Owen, Mariella, Cory, Cassie, Kaylee, Libby, Justin and Crystal and great grandchildren Landon, Jake, and Joseph. She leaves a sister Rose T. Hanson and a brother John F. Hanson, both of Worcester, a sister-in-law Kathleen Gallagher and brother-in-law Thomas Gallagher and his wife Beverly, all of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sister Jane Rourke and husband James and sister-in-law Anna Gallagher.

MaryAnn was born in Bangor, ME, daughter of Charles F. and Mary H. (McPherson) Hanson and lived most of her life in Worcester.

MaryAnn graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Worcester, class of 1953. Before starting her family, she was Director of Personnel at Memorial Hospital, Worcester. Later in life, she worked at the Admissions Office at Worcester State College.

MaryAnn was a devout Catholic and dedicated many hours as a member of and active volunteer of Christ the King Church. She was also President of the Women’s Guild, Eucharistic Minister, Member of the Bereavement Committee and Supper Club, and a Boy Scout Den Mother. MaryAnn enjoyed helping others and studied braille to assist the blind. She was an avid bowler and won many league titles and also enjoyed knitting and babysitting. Her biggest joy was her family and friends and time spent with all of them at Green Lake in ME and Cape Cod and traveling in both the U.S. and Europe and all her time spent at Christ the King Church.

Calling hours are Monday, July 25, from 4 to 7 pm at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 26, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in MaryAnn’s memory are suggested to Mustard Seed Catholic Worker, 93 Piedmont St., Worcester, MA.
