Marie (Dufresne) Daige, 91, of Cherry Valley passed peacefully on Monday, December 21 at home surrounded by her loving family. Marie’s beloved husband of 70 years, James Daige, passed away on April 20, 2019. She leaves her ten children, Suzanne Madore, Kenneth Daige, Peter Daige, Francis Daige, Patricia Langlois, Thomas Daige and his wife, Kathleen, Jack Daige and his wife, Trisha, Joanne and her husband, David Miller, Robert Daige and his wife, Crystal, and Andrew Daige and his wife, Kathleen; 19 grandchildren, Jill Madore, Amy Dee, Leah Fenner, Jesse Daige, Rachael Benoit, Katelyn Mercer, Jonathan Daige, Ashley Daige, Alison Daige, Jeffrey Daige, Connor O’Brien, Christopher Daige, Dylan Daige, Shauna O’Brien, Ryan Daige, Shannon Daige, Kelly Daige, Daniel Daige, and Joseph Daige. She also leaves 12 great-grandchildren, Brian and Cara Delaney, Olivia Jewett, Michael and Matthew Fenner, Julia and John Dee, James Daige-Booth, Charlotte and Jane Mercer, Jackson and Sabrina Benoit; 1 great-great-grandchild Harper Riopel, and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Jane Marino, and her husband Jack. She was predeceased by her brothers Carlton, Robert, Bernard (Lefty), Donald, and Raymond (Butch), along with her son-in-law, John Madore, and daughter-in-law, Jeannie Dolen-Daige.

Marie was born in Worcester, the daughter of Carlton and Helena (Packard) Dufresne. She grew up on Grafton Hill and graduated from St. Stephen’s High School.

Marie met her husband, Jimmy, on Grafton Hill and married shortly after. In 1958, they moved to a farm in Leicester where they raised their children. This home held all family gatherings including Christmas Eve, Fourth of July, Easter, Festivus, and Sunday dinner after church. This is where she loved to be; in the kitchen, baking and cooking for her family. Marie, or as many called her, Nana, was the definition of a matriarch who spent her life serving others.

She volunteered for many organizations including the Food Pantry at St. Joseph’s Parish, Jeramiah’s Inn, F.I.S.H., and countless others.

Marie was a dedicated member of St. Joseph’s-St. Pius X Church where she served as a Eucharist Minister. She was a devout Catholic who believed in the power of prayer and demonstrated her faith through service to others.

Her favorite pastimes included bowling, crossword puzzles, puzzles, going to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s games, and watching the Red Sox and Patriots. She enjoyed family trips to Cape Cod and her annual “Girls Trip” with her sister Jane, daughters, and nieces.

Marie was truly one of a kind. To know her was to love her. It’s only fitting that she’d depart on the same day as the rare appearance of the Star of Bethlehem. We believe this star will guide Marie to Jimmy who is waiting for her in Heaven.

Her Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 24, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph – St. Pius X Church, 1161 Main Street, Leicester, MA. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leicester Food Pantry, 759 Main Street, Leicester, MA 01524.
