Margaret G. (Granlund) Kenney, 90, of Holden passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

Margaret was born in Gotenburg, Sweden, the daughter of Gustav and Anna (Olson) Granlund. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1928 and resided in the Indian Hill section of Worcester, where Margaret spent her childhood. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and worked at Iandoli Supermarket in Holden for 30 years. Most of her career at Iandoli’s was spent as a bookkeeper stationed at the courtesy desk. She thoroughly enjoyed conversing with customers and will be remembered for her ever-present smile and charm. After her retirement, Margaret decided to go back to work and spent several years at the Wal-Mart in West Boylston, retiring at the age of 80. She was also Holden’s first woman crossing guard.

She was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Worcester and was a member of Chaffin Congregational Church in Holden. She was thrilled to be a grandmother and was overjoyed to have lived long enough to experience having a great grandson. Margaret would often share tender memories of ice skating, ice sailing, and adventurous swims across Indian Lake with her grandchildren. Margaret spent the winters in Dunedin, Florida and enjoyed her time with the people there; both in the pool and out of it. She was a devoted wife, mother, and doting grandmother and will be missed by those who were blessed to have known her.

She is predeceased by her husband of 28 years who died at the age of 56, Robert J. Kenney; a son, Jon B. Kenney and his wife Cindy of Holden; three grandchildren, Joseph and his wife, Heather, Timothy, and Paul Kenney; a great grandson, Nolan; several nephews and nieces. Besides her husband, Margaret is predeceased by a son, Paul Robert Kenney.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Margaret’s family from 9 to 10:30 am on Monday, January 18, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, with a funeral service honoring her life at 10:30 am. The Rev. Diane Dugan will be officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest next to her husband and son at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made in her name to the Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury St., Holden, MA 01520, or Tower Hill Botanical Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, MA 01505. To share a memory or offer a condolence.
