Subscription Update Obituary

Marcel J. Poirier,99, of the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, died Sunday, Dec. 11th. at his home. He was the husband of Marie (Gallant) Poirier who died in 2021. He leaves his sons; James E. Poirier and his wife Nancy and Thomas J. Poirier and his wife Kathy all of Rutland, his daughters; Linda S. Lambert of Cherry Valley, Deborah J. Fortin and her husband Arthur of Sterling Heights, MI, and Elizabeth A. Martin and her husband Chuck of Leicester, 3 brothers; Burt Poirier of Grafton, Edgar Poirier of Leicester and Emile Poirier of Cape Cod, 2 sisters; Rita Tremblay of N.H, and Marie DiDonna of Grafton, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers; Roland, Lionel and Paul Poirier and sisters; Jean Karle, and Doris Simonian.

Marcel was a longtime machinist at the former Crompton & Knowles and then later at Heald Machine in Worcester before retiring in 1988.

He was born in Rumford, ME., the son of Emile and Marie (Fortier) Poirier and later served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. Marcel was a member of St. Joseph-St. Pius X Parish. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards (especially cribbage), trips to the casino, and travelling the world with his wife.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15th. from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1153 Main St., Leicester. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Veterans, Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
