Magdalena Soto, 61, of Worcester, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Magdalena is survived by her husband of twenty-eight years, John Rodriquez; son Juan Carlos Rodriguez; daughters Astri Rodriguez and Janet Rodriguez; four grandchildren, Solimar,  Janeliz, Elianet, and Juan Carlos, Jr.; parents German and Esther Maldonado; brother Carlos Soto; sisters Sandra, Carmen, and Maritza Soto; father and mother-in-law William Rodriguez and Migdalia Rivera; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Magdalena was a woman of virtue and faith, a woman of splendor and commitment who dedicated her life to serving others. Most recently as an intake expert for the Worcester Community Action Council and Seven Hills Foundation. The church community at Saint Joan of Arc, where she once served as the parish secretary and was a founder and current director of the church’s Spanish Choir, will be her primary place of remembrance. She participated extensively in church life by teaching CCD, belonging to the Legion of Mary, and being a part of the John XXIII movement. Many saw Magdalena as the very definition of an angel on earth because of her constant willingness to lend a helping hand.

Through her God-gifted talent for music and leadership, she became the mentor of many of those who now continue to praise God in Spanish choirs across the diocese.

Calling Hours, in church, will be on Monday, August 28, from 10 a.m. until her Funeral Mass begins at 12 Noon in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln Street, Worcester.  Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
