Lewis H. Heirtzler, 98, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at UMass Memorial Healthcare – University Campus after an illness. He was born in Worcester, the son of Lewis J. and Ada (Heinz) Heirtzler and had lived most of his life in Worcester.

His loving wife of 73 years, Teresa M. (Gagliardi) Heirtzler, passed away in 2018 He leaves his sons, Paul L. Heirtzler and his wife, Martha of Vero Beach, FL, Frank J. Heirtzler and his wife, Cynthia of Londonderry, NH, and Michael G. Heirtzler and his former wife, Michele, both of Worcester; his grandchildren, Christina, Paul Jr., David, Leslie, Joseph, Kristen, and Jessica; seven great-grandchildren, Victoria, Wyatt, Andrew, Matthew, Stephen, Seth, and Saturn.

Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during World War II. He served with the Medical Detachment 32nd Station Hospital in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. In 1947, he served with the Air Force Reserve’s for over thirty years, retiring in 1984 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a Union Carpenter with Local 107 in Worcester many years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Church and was a well-known stained-glass maker. He worked on many projects, including lamps, mirrors, clocks, and windows, some of which were donated to St. Christopher’s Church.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4th at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Lewis will be held on Wednesday, April 5th with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Christopher’s Church, 950 West Boylston Street, Worcester followed by a committal service at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veteran’s Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
