Subscription Update Obituary

Leonard J. “Chub” Battelle, 62, of 25 Prentice St., died in University of Massachusetts Hospital.

He left his wife of 40 years, Shirley A. (DiCenzo) Battelle; a son, Gary Battelle of Worcester; two daughters, Donna M. Gallagher of Barre and Gina Tashjian of Boylston; two brothers, Richard K. Battelle of Worcester and William W. Battelle of Spencer; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Fredrick A. and Marie A. (Roberts) Battelle. He graduated from Commerce High School and was a Marine veteran of the Korean War.

A member of Teamsters Local 170, Mr. Battelle was a driver for Red Star Trucking Co. for many years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 4181 of Shrewsbury.

The funeral was held from Louis Fazio & Sons Funeral Home, 9 Branch St., with a Mass in Our Lady of Mt.Carmel-St. Anne Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial was in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham 01701.
