Lawrence F. “Larry” Vigeant, 64, passed away peacefully at home of pancreatic cancer on Thursday, September 1, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was born and raised in Worcester a son of Gloria (Mangenello) Maurais and the late Francis Vigeant.
Like many young men in the late 60’s, Larry was drafted into the US Army and proudly served more than 3 years during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, Larry began what would be a 29 year career with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, retiring in 2012 as a Sergeant. Larry loved to spend his free time gathered with family or enjoying the outdoors, Whether he was pedaling his bicycle over the roads of the Wachusett area, casting his fly fishing rod with one of his hand tied flies into a local stream or his favorite fishing spot in Rangeley, Maine or waiting for a tilt to pop on the ice, Larry was up for the challenge. His favorite sport was bow hunting, which he was quite accomplished at. He also enjoyed rooting on the local Boston sports teams, especially the Bruins. Larry and Pat loved to visit the beaches along the coast of Maine. He will be forever lovingly missed by his family and friends.
He leaves his beloved wife, Patricia A. (Desroches) Vigeant; his children, Anthony and his partner, Kristin Thibault, Steven and his partner, Erin Demand and Melissa and her fiancé, Kevin Van Arsdalen; his three grandchildren whom he loved and cherished so much, Zachary, Gavin and Mason; his two brothers, Michael Vigeant and his wife, Debbie of Kittery, ME, and Robert Maurais and his partner, Randy Friss of York, ME; his two sisters, Susan Nibi of York, ME and Marine Mayfield of North Berwick, ME; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Judy Abbascia and Faith St. Martin.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit and share memories with Larry’s family on Tuesday, September 6, from 4-7 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service honoring his life will be held on Wednesday, September 7, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home followed by burial with military honors in Worcester County Memorial Park.
