Subscription Update Obituary

Katherine M. (McPartland) Ekberg, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at her home in Worcester on March 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Worcester on January 14, 1937, daughter of Katherine (Rittberg) and Myles McPartland.

Kay leaves behind many that love and will miss her dearly including her husband, Richard E. Ekberg; her son, Richard A. Ekberg and daughter-in-law Donna of Dudley; grandchildren, Joseph Ekberg and his girlfriend Adrienne of CT, Ashley Ekberg of Dudley, as well as her great-grandson, Hunter. Her presence in their lives will be deeply missed but forever treasured.  Katherine was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jane R. Hunt, Patricia Mulhearn, Ann T. Giaquinto and William A. McPartland. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Cindy Welch of Worcester.

Katherine dedicated herself to various roles during her career. She served as a dedicated switchboard operator at Tel. & Tel. Company and State Mutual and later as an office clerk at R.H. White’s and Ziff Paper Company. Her commitment to her work was truly admirable.

Outside of work, Kay found joy in simple pleasures and cherished hobbies. She had a passion for playing solitaire, exploring new destinations through travel and camping trips, relaxing on the beach, trying her luck at the casino with a special love for Keno, and embarking on exciting cruises. Her adventurous spirit and zest for life were truly remarkable.

Among her many proudest accomplishments, Katherine held family above all else. She took immense pride in caring for and nurturing her loved ones throughout her 68 years of marriage to her devoted husband Richard E. Ekberg.

Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Kay’s life with visitation on Friday, March 8, 2024 from10:00 AM until 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester Country Memorial Park, Paxton.
