Subscription Update Obituary

Karen M. (Chakuas) Hannah, 75, of Ware, died on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at her son Derek’s home in Warren following a battle with cancer.

She leaves her two sons, Derek B. Hannah and his wife Susan, and  Sean M. Hannah and his wife Darcie of Springfield, IL; seven grandchildren, Darion, Grace, and Emily Hannah of Warren, and Kyle, Juliet, Sawyer Hannah and Chase Hanson of Springfield, IL.  She also leaves her sister Susan Klama and her husband Chris, her brother Steven Chakuas and wife Shirley, and her brother Joe Chakuas. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Mason, brother Tommy Chakuas, and brother Kevin Chakuas. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Joseph  and Arlene  Chakuas.

Karen worked at a Dodge Park Rest Home in Worcester when her boys were born and then worked in the cafeteria at Worcester State College.  She was also a Chimney Sweep with her former husband, David B. Hannah. Later, she worked in the deli at Walmart till she retired. Karen was a member of Adams, Coney, Frew American Legion Post #244 in West Brookfield and liked to get together with friends to play Pitch.  She also enjoyed spending time at the Ware Senior Center. Her grandkids were her life and she spent as much time as possible with them. Holidays were her favorite and getting together with family was so fun for her. She was a Red Sox fan and was ecstatic when they won the World Series.  She was also a Bruins fan and named her son, Derek, after Derek Sanderson.  She also enjoyed movies and her older son, Sean, was named after Sean Connery, the actor.

A Funeral Service for Karen will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 5:30pm in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 5:30pm prior to the service. There will be an afterparty after the service held at the American Legion post #244 in West Brookfield.  Burial in Worcester County Memorial Park will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Adams, Coney, Frew American Legion Post #244, P.O. Box 252, West Brookfield, MA 01585.
