Subscription Update Obituary

Joyce H. (Nelson) Nichols, 82, of Grove Street died Wednesday, November 9, 2022 in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus.

Her husband of 62 years, James J. Nichols died May 4, 2022. She leaves two sons; Donald R. Nichols, Sr. and his wife Paula of Worcester and Joseph G. Nichols and his wife Michelle of Sturbridge, seven grandchildren; Donald Nichols, Jr. and his wife April, Ami Nichols, Paul Nichols and his wife Lauren, Michael Bartkiewicz, Paul Green, Ashley Bastien and her husband Mark and Savannah Nichols, eight great grandchildren; Alex, Thomas, Brody, Thomas, Grayson, Liam, Eilanna and Lilliana Rose.

Joyce was born in Worcester, daughter of Emil A. and Loretta R. (Gagne) Nelson. She was a driver at Project Accept for several years before retiring. She was a longtime and very active member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church. She was a den mother and active with the scouts troop 63 when her sons were young. She was an avid Nascar Racing and New England Patriots fan. She enjoyed gardening, golf and ceramics. Joyce and James enjoyed traveling with their sons when the boys were young and always were quick to include the boys friends.

Joyce’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 15 at 11:00 AM in Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no visiting hours.
