Subscription Update Obituary

     Joseph A. Genereux, 86, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Holden Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center after an illness. He was born in Pawtucket, RI, the son of Louis E. and Ruth E. (Burroughs) Genereux. He lived in Worcester for over 40 years.

His loving wife of 31 years, Pauline J. (Leroux) Genereux, passed away in 1991. Joseph leaves five children, Susan M. Vangel and her husband, Vic of Paxton, David P. Genereux and his wife, Aileen of Raleigh, NC, Stephen J. Genereux and his wife, Julie of Lincoln, RI, Ronald R. Genereux and his partner, Hank Richards of New York City, and Carolyn J. Genereux and her husband, Gabriel Torres of New York City; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Louis and his two sisters, Rose and Lorraine.

Joseph graduated from Rhode Island College of Education in 1955. He entered the U.S. Army in 1956, serving two years active duty and four years in the Reserves. Following his honorable service, he continued his education and graduated with a Master’s degree from Syracuse University. Joseph taught Physics at Wachusett Regional High School for 29 years before retiring in 1994. Previously, he taught science at both Attleboro Middle School and High School and coached the varsity soccer team. He enjoyed playing and listening to music, running, traveling with Pauline and watching his favorite New England sports teams. Joseph was passionate about teaching and was highly regarded by his students and fellow teachers. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his loving family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joseph’s family on Thursday, July 26, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s name to the Wachusett Regional High School Science Dept., c/o Donna Bradway, 1401 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520, or a charity of one’s choice.
