Subscription Update Obituary

    John D. McLellan, 81, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous struggle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Dorothy E. (Fyrberg) McLellan; a son, Daniel J. McLellan and his wife Maureen of Worcester; two daughters: Joy Ann L’Ecuyer and her husband Alcide of Northfield; Lori L. Giannotti and her husband Robert E., Sr., of Chelmsford; three sisters: Joni Cantone, Barbara Cedrone, and Helen Antonelli; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister: Neil, Alexander, Edward, and Joseph McLellan and Mary McDonald.

    He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, a son of Margaret (Gillis) and Alexander McLellan. He was a decorated Korean War veteran with the 77th Field Artillery Battalion (Purple Heart Medal, Korean Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars). He worked as a brick mason for the City of Worcester. John was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Auburn VFW, and St. John’s Church, Worcester. John loved working in and around the house and treasured time spent with his family.

    Calling hours will be at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, from 3-6 p.m., Sunday, January 30. The funeral will be Monday, January 31, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel with a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. John’s Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the American Cancer Society , 30 Speen St., Framingham MA 01701.
