John B. Cassidy Jr., 57 of Rutland, affectionately known to many as “Cass”, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at UMASS Memorial Hospital with his beloved sisters and nieces by his side.

He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of the late John B. and Shirley M. (Sheary) Cassidy. John was a 1976 graduate of Doherty Memorial High School, and he went on to take courses at Clark University. John spent the first half of his professional life working for Wyman Gordon, and later became a Network Engineer servicing the facilities of UMASS throughout the state.

John was a big man with an even bigger heart. He will be fondly remembered for his sharp wit, his keen sense of humor, his unwavering generosity, and his genuine kindness and compassion.

John is survived by his sisters Kathleen T. Cassidy-Dolan of Rutland, and Eileen M. Lavallee and her husband James of Rutland; as well as his two nieces-his pride and joy- Erin E. Dolan of Rutland, and Colleen C. Dolan of Worcester, to whom he was like a father. He also leaves behind his dear friends Leonard Gengel and family; Robert “Buck” Anderson; Walter “Zeke” Zawalich; and Doreen Grabauskas-all of whom he considered family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 8:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, June 20, at the CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. Burial will take place at the Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John’s other “niece”, Britney Gengel, to Be Like Brit, 66 Pullman Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
