Subscription Update Obituary

Joanne M. Murphy, 51, of Worcester, died Monday, March 7, 2022 at her home after an illness.

Joanne leaves her partner and best friend of ten years, Kenneth Lapierre; whom she loved so much along with her three sisters, Catherine Murphy-Sweet and her husband Timothy Sweet of Sterling, Patricia Hartman and her husband Stephen Hartman of Worcester and Eileen Murphy-Bleau and her husband Matthew Bleau of Oxford. Also, she leaves seven nieces, nephews and a great niece; Julie Perron, her husband Zach, and their daughter Grace; David Sweet, Shannon Sweet, Ryan Hartman and his fiancé Sarah, Brianna Hartman, and Elaina and Jason Bleau.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Vincent L. and Rita V. (Carpenter) Murphy. She was a graduate of Burncoat High School and Worcester State College.

She worked in the human resources office of Charter Communications in Worcester. Later, she was an accountant for the City of Worcester Fire Department.

Joanne adored her dogs Lenny and Millhouse, and her cat Annie.

Besides going to the beach, Joanne loved spending time with her family and friends. She always had a big Fourth of July party and a Saint Patrick’s Day party as well.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Div. 36.

Calling hours are Friday, March 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 12, at 10 a.m. in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
