Joan E. (Lachapelle) Mathews, 84, of Worcester, died peacefully at home on Monday, March 1st 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Joan is survived by her beloved life partner Michael Rizzuti of 24 years; a son Michael Mathews, of Worcester; a daughter Susan (Mathews) Luton and her husband Gary, of Grand Lake Colorado; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her husband Faneuil (Junie)E. Mathews, and two sons, David and Andrew Mathews.

Joan was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Ernest and Dolores (Whipple) Lachapelle. She was the fourth born of 15 children.

Joan lived most of her life in the Vernon Hill neighborhood of Worcester and enjoyed spending the winter months in Fort Myers, Florida. She was matriarch of her family. She loved her family so very much. They were her pride and joy. She was always up for company and everyone knew just where to find her in her impeccably clean comfortable home. She loved entertaining, playing cards, Yahtzee, cooking, baking and sewing. She was a “sweetie pie” and we “loved her a bushel and a peck”. She will be sorely missed but fondly remembered.

Burial will be private and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
