Subscription Update Obituary

     Joan F. (Hipp) Jackson, 75, of Worcester died Saturday, October 27th 2012 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus surrounded by her loving family. She leaves her husband of 56 years, Robert J. Jackson; two sons, Michael J. Jackson and his wife, Bokja “Soo Mi” of South Korea and Philip A. Jackson of Worcester; a daughter, Donna J. Hamalainen and her husband, Charles of Worcester; 6 grandchildren, John, James, Michelle, Michael, Sharon and Matthew; 4 great grandchildren, Karsen, Kylie, Ashlynn and Jayce. She also leaves many friends from bowling and special friends, Suzanne Carow and Doris Power. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Hipp and her special friend, Rose DiMarzio.
     She was born in Worcester the daughter of John and Madelynne Hipp. Joan graduated from St. Peter’s School and attended Worcester State Teacher’s College. Mrs. Jackson was a Campfire Girl leader for many years. She was a devout catholic and a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and its quilting group which provided blankets for babies in the area hospitals. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, travelling and arts and crafts. She loved to shop and to go to the casino. Joan was a very outgoing person who had many friends. She was an avid Red Sox fan. Mrs. Jackson enjoyed bowling and was in the Fruit Bowl League at AMF, Auburn and then the Dropout League at Colonial Bowling, Worcester for 43 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a good friend of a friend of Bill W.
     Mrs. Jackson was very active with the Elections. She has been working the elections for the past 52 years. She started out as a clerk and was the warden for the last two Presidential elections.
     The family would like to thank the staff of UMASS Memorial University Campus 2 Lakeside ICU for the exceptional care and support they provided during Joan’s time in the hospital.
Her funeral is Thursday, November 1st from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 31st from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Angels Building Fund, 1222 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
